Medical and surgical dermatology is often used to treat basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and serious malignant melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer. In most situations, squamous cell carcinoma can be cured by the following dermatology treatments: electrodesiccation and curettage; excision; Mohs micrographic surgery, radiation, and topical prescription medications. Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common skin cancer after basal cell carcinoma.
