Remove a Layer of Skin by Biopsy

Removing a layer of skin by biopsy is a surgical procedure that is used to determine if a patient has skin cancer, melanoma, or another type of skin condition. There are various forms of skin biopsy procedures. Each procedure is dependent on the suspected type of cancer or skin condition. There are four types of skin biopsies used to diagnose cancer: shave biopsy, punch biopsy, incisional biopsy, and excisional biopsy.
